We continue with student presentations of Winter Art. I will supply photos of my own if no student does. This week, we concentrate on Winter Art about Asia—Viet Nam if possible, but SouthEast Asia at least.

In our 2nd week of the News Literacy Project, we will analyze the pyramid of scientific investigation at newslit.org linked here

Dr Kat has a video about different levels of scientifice evidence that will lead off our study of the pyramid. Go to this YouTube link I also encourage you to visit Dr Kat’s TikTok channel on debunking (that is, falsifying) misleading health claims. Dr Kat is an expert on evaluating evidence-based information about health.

We have our work cut out for us this week! We will limit our Winter Art discussion to 30 minutes; the rest of the class will be devoted to our position in the Checkology portion of the News Literacy Project.

We will be going through the News Literacy Project website for at least the next 10 weeks, so I encourage everyone to browse the website and explore the contents it offers everyone free of charge.

The News Literacy Project was a co-winner of the 2023 Library of Congress Literacy Awards Program.

Viet Nam’s very own Compassion Books (Tủ Sách Nhân Ái – Trao sách trao yêu thương) won an award in the same ceremony in 2023 as a Successful Practices Honoree. You can read about the 2023 Library of Congress Literacy Awards on their own web page here

Now you have the background for our interest in this wonderful tool for developing news literacy, and I look forward to an extended course of study for our class to become news literate in a world increasingly populated with misleading, false, and harmful disinformation across all media platforms, including legacy media companies!

I look forward to seeing all of you each week at 22:00 on Saturdays at our customary link, pinned to the top of our Facebook Messenger thread!
